The impression that this trip to Nagasaki brought me,
I thought of Hiroshima Prefecture, which I had visited before.
Nagasaki Prefecture, like Hiroshima Prefecture, has two similar cities that rely on and support each other,
one for civilian use and one for military use.
Nagasaki City in Nagasaki and Hiroshima City in Hiroshima are both administrative and commercial centers, commercial ports, and shipbuilding industrial centers of the prefecture.
But there is always an important military port near the big city where the two prefectures are located.
Hiroshima's Kure Port and Nagasaki's Sasebo are both important naval bases.
Nagasaki has a lot of historical features. Before the American black ships opened ports, only a few port cities in the south of Kyushu were open to foreign trade and business, and Nagasaki was the city that was open at that time. Therefore, the Dutch learning that Japan learned at that time was the technology and technology brought by the Dutch. It was landed here and then spread all over Japan. Therefore, this city used to have a lot of churches, Western-style buildings, and Baroque-style streets. In terms of food, many Japanese-style Western food such as hamburgers, Chinese cuisine, Turkish rice and other localized foreign foods in Japan originated from Nagasaki.
There is an important attraction in Nagasaki that I highly recommend. Everyone who goes to Hakodate will go to Hakodate Mountain to enjoy the three major night views in Japan, but what about the other two? One is Rokko Mountain in Hyogo Prefecture, and the last one is the Inasayama platform where I went this time.
But why say in the past? Because Nagasaki is one of the only two cities in the world destroyed by atomic bombs, just like Hiroshima. However, because Nagasaki has many hills and mountain walls, and the US bombers did not drop the bombs over the Mitsubishi Arsenal as originally planned, the damage caused by the explosion was not as tragic as Hiroshima, but it still caused 70,000 deaths and destroyed many Western-style buildings.
As for Sasebo, it is a military port. The Sasebo coast is the famous Ninety-Nine Island. The scenery is very beautiful, with many fjords or islands forming the coast. But in the past, it was a good berth for hiding warships, just like Kure Port can hide ships in many bays and islands in the Seto Inland Sea. In addition, Sasebo also gives me the feeling that it is like Okinawa, because the port is also another important hub of the US Pacific Fleet besides Yokosuka. A large number of amphibious ships have also used Sasebo as their home port. This trip to Sasebo is to appreciate the ships of the US and Japanese navies, and by the way, complete another achievement, the westernmost JR station in Japan.
