Okinawa, an island brimming with sunshine, beaches, and unique culture. Beyond its stunning ocean views, it also boasts countless hidden gems worth exploring. This trip to Okinawa, we specially arranged a culinary and historical journey, visiting the restaurant "Centennial Old House Agu Pork," where we savored unique local delicacies and immersing ourselves in the unique charm of an old Okinawan home.
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a meticulously maintained Japanese garden. During the day, "Centennial Old House" exudes a tranquil and quaint atmosphere. Sunlight streams down the traditional Okinawan red-tiled roof, interweaving with the lush greenery and gurgling water to create a beautiful scene. We walked along the red wooden corridor, the winding stone path lined with neatly arranged wooden pillars, as if stepping into a tunnel of time.
At night, the old house takes on a different charm. Illuminated by lights, the entire garden creates a warm and romantic atmosphere. The garden's flowing bridges, rockery waterfalls, and meticulously manicured trees were even more captivating under the illumination. We sat inside the restaurant, admiring the picturesque nightscape through the windows and feeling a sense of tranquility, detached from the hustle and bustle.
Of course, the highlight of this trip was savoring Agu Pork. Agu Pork is a black pork breed unique to Okinawa, renowned for its sweet, evenly marinated meat. We ordered Agu Pork Shabu-Shabu, and the restaurant presented a large plate of tender, pink-colored, marbling-like Agu pork slices. Besides the Agu Pork, the set meal also included a variety of fresh vegetables, handmade dumplings, and Okinawan noodles, creating a rich and varied menu.
The pork slices are gently poached in the boiling broth, not taking long until the meat changes color. The moment you take a bite, the savory sweetness of the meat and the aroma of the marinated meat blend perfectly, creating a chewy, yet not greasy texture. Paired with the special sauce, the Agu Pork's flavor is elevated to its fullest. Besides the delicious food, the dining environment also added a significant dimension to the experience. We dined in a century-old traditional house, where the wooden architecture and traditional furnishings exuded a sense of history. It was not only a feast for the senses, but also a cultural and spiritual journey.
In short, "Centennial Old House Agu Pig" is a perfect place for a culinary experience, a breathtaking view, and a truly unique cultural experience. Whether it's the quaint tranquility of the day or the romantic atmosphere of the night, it's truly captivating. If you have the opportunity to visit Okinawa, don't miss this special place that will delight both your taste buds and your soul.
