I wonder if you would like to feel like an authentic Japanese izakaya when you travel to Okinawa? This time I would like to recommend a Japanese izakaya in Nago that I have personally tried and sincerely recommend. The food is thoughtful and the environment is full of Showa flavor.
Store name: Izakaya さざんか
Address: 2-12-20, Nago, Okinawa
Opening hours: 17:00–00:00 daily
Signature dishes: grilled chicken skewers, Okinawa bitter gourd scrambled eggs, sea grapes, sashimi platter
Price: About 2500-3500 yen per person on average
Environment: The shop is full of nostalgia. The shop has a bar table and Japanese tatami seating, suitable for friends to have a drink. The walls are covered with customer messages and Japanese posters.
Featured Highlights:
- Grilled chicken skewers are fragrant enough and tender, almost every table must order
- Okinawa bitter gourd scrambled eggs are slightly sweet and not bitter, the scrambled eggs are tender, great with beer
- Sashimi platter is cut to order, seasonal seafood is incredibly fresh
- The owner is super enthusiastic, if you don't know how to order, he will affectionately recommend local ingredients, fresh and seasonal
- The food is fast, you don't have to worry about getting hungry even if you don't have to wait long
- The atmosphere is particularly good at night, with many locals and long-stay travelers going back to take pictures
Real impressions:
Each dish did not step on the thunder, the most surprising is that the bitter gourd scrambled eggs can be so delicious, refreshing and appetizing; and the sashimi is beautifully spread, sea grapes eat a bite of savory seafood, recommended!
💡Itinerary Tips:
- Dinner is busiest at 7-8pm, it is recommended to go early or call in advance to book a seat if you want to sit comfortably.
- There is a parking space nearby, which is quite convenient by car.
- The staff has limited English, but there is a simple menu to refer to the dishes, easy to communicate!
