Located in the heart of Naha, Okinawa, Fuzhou Garden is a rare example of Min-style architecture in the area. It was created to commemorate Naha's 70th anniversary as a city and its sister city relationship with Fuzhou. Skilled craftsmen were specially brought in from Fuzhou to construct this unique garden.
The garden features elements like Peach Blossom Stream, covered bridges, and observation decks, all showcasing a strong Chinese aesthetic. Additionally, the White Pagoda and Black Pagoda each occupy distinct scenic spots within the garden. A waterfall pavilion is built atop an artificial hill, offering a refreshing experience from below and a panoramic view of the entire garden from above.
Using the borrowed scenery technique, the garden achieves a layered visual effect. The white walls, gray tiles, red pillars, and stone materials blend to create a Jiangnan-style garden with distinct Fuzhou characteristics. At the same time, the garden incorporates local Okinawan plants such as mulberries and papayas, resulting in a harmonious fusion of styles.
Admission is ¥200. Visitors who appreciate garden aesthetics can include this as a sightseeing spot. It is conveniently located about a 7-minute walk from Kencho-mae Station on the monorail.
