Okinawa | A Concentration of Chinese Garden Beauty - Fuzhou Garden in Okinawa

This unique garden, located in the urban area of Okinawa, has a history spanning over 30 years. The story dates back to 1992, when artisans from Fuzhou were invited to create this garden to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Naha's establishment and the sister-city relationship between Fuzhou and Naha.

The garden features a peach blossom creek, corridors, and viewing platforms that reflect a strong Chinese aesthetic. The White Pagoda and Black Pagoda each occupy distinct scenic spots within the garden. A waterfall pavilion is built atop an artificial hill, offering a refreshing experience from below and a panoramic view of Fuzhou Garden from above.

Using the borrowed scenery technique, the garden showcases layered beauty. White walls, gray tiles, and red stone pillars intertwine to create a Jiangnan-style garden with Fuzhou characteristics. Additionally, the garden is planted with mulberries, papayas, and local Okinawan vegetation, presenting a harmonious blend of landscapes.

Fuzhou Garden offers affordable admission fees—200 yen for daytime visits and 600 yen for nighttime visits due to higher maintenance costs for the night scenery. Whether as a rainy-day backup plan or a quick visit before your flight, this garden is well worth exploring.
