When visiting Naminoue Shrine, you can also stop by the Tsushima Maru Memorial Museum, a historical site. The two-story gray concrete building solemnly recounts the tragic "Tsushima Maru sinking incident" during the Pacific War, which led to the loss of many Okinawan civilians and children.
The Tsushima Maru Memorial Museum focuses on "Children and War" as its main theme. Inside, visitors can learn about the details of the incident, the names of the victims, testimonies from survivors and their families, reconstructions of classrooms and the ship's interior, as well as photographs and belongings of the deceased.
Additionally, the museum offers an official guidebook and has a library where visitors can access other war-related materials. In Asahigaoka Park, there is a memorial for the victims of the Tsushima Maru, known as the "Little Cherry Blossom Tower."
Admission for adults is ¥500.
