Sala Loi Temple

Wat Sala Loi is an ancient temple of great significance to the people of Korat (Nakhon Ratchasima). It was built by Thao Suranari (Ya Mo) and her husband, Phraya Suriyadet (Plaad Thongkham), after winning the war against Chao Anuwong in 1827. The pavilion-shaped raft, which floated down Lam Takong River following Ya Mo's predictions, happened to land there, making it a sacred site revered by the locals for a long time.
Highlights of Wat Sala Loi
The Old Junk-Shaped Ubosot: The temple's most striking feature is the old Ubosot, built in the shape of a floating junk, decorated with unique terracotta tiles from Dan Kwian. The front wall depicts the life of the Buddha, while the back depicts the Buddha's descent from the Tavatimsa Heaven. Inside, a principal white stucco Buddha image in the Subduing the Ocean posture, known as "Phra Phutthapraphat Sunthon Thammaphisan." Sala Loi Phiman Worasantisukmunin. This ubosot (ordination hall) received an award for outstanding architecture in 1973.
Chedi containing Ya Mo's ashes: In front of the ubosot stands a chedi containing Ya Mo's ashes. Korat residents and tourists often come to pay their respects for good fortune.
New ubosot: In addition to the junk-shaped ubosot (ordination hall), there is also a new ubosot (ordination hall). Inside, there is a principal Buddha image and relics of the Lord Buddha for worship.
Shady atmosphere: The temple is located next to Lam Takhong River, offering a peaceful and shady atmosphere, perfect for making merit and relaxing.
