Bada Shanren is the alias of Zhu Da, an outstanding painter and calligrapher in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His real name is Zhu Tongqi, also known as Geshan. He is a descendant of Zhu Quan, the sixteenth son of Emperor Taizu Zhu Yuanzhang of the Ming Dynasty. Zhu Da's artistic thoughts integrate the essence of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. His artistic style is profound, ethereal, implicit, and natural.

The predecessor of Bada Shanren Memorial Hall is his former residence Jin. The museum is the first memorial hall for ancient painters in China and also a national first-class museum. Currently, only the original works museum is open, which includes three exhibition halls and a temporary exhibition, and a total of 36 works of Bada Shanren are collected.
