Fuzimiao is a temple dedicated to Confucius. It is also commonly called Gongmiao. Its name comes from ‘Gongfuzi (孔夫子)’, which means respect for Confucius. It is located on the south side of Jinhui River in Nanjing. It was built in 1034, the first year of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty.
Most of the buildings were destroyed by fire and war, but they have been renovated and rebuilt several times to reach what they are today. It is the largest Confucius temple in Nanjing, but it is on the smaller side among Confucius temples throughout China.
However, it is known as a representative tourist attraction of Nanjing due to its significant historical and architectural value. In 1991, it was designated as one of the top 40 tourist destinations in China. Fuzimiao is located on the busiest street in Nanjing.
It is the center of Nanjing travel, along with the surrounding food..
