Just 1 hour by car from Nanjing, there’s a hidden gem that's free to visit and definitely worth revisiting—it’s a truly breathtaking experience! 🚗💨
The mountain isn’t very high, and at the base, you can easily find taxis to take you to the top parking lot. From there, it’s just a short walk down. We drove straight to the top and it only took us a few minutes! ⛰️
Recommended Travel Route:
1. Donglu Mountain 🏔️
2. Zhou Garden 🌷
3. Shijiu Lake 🌊
1. Donglu Mountain Guanyin Temple (Free!)
This temple was originally built during the Yuan Dynasty and is a branch of Jiming Temple. It is located at the foot of Donglu Mountain, facing Zhongshan Lake. The temple is historically significant, as it was named after the famous Eastern Han scholar Yan Ziling, who once built a hut here to live in seclusion. It's also known as the source of the Qinhuai River.
2. Zhou Garden (79 RMB, free with Nanjing Annual Pass)
Often referred to as "The Southern Forbidden City," Zhou Garden has many fascinating collections, including:
The redwood bed where Emperor Puyi once slept 🛏️
The world's largest single-piece wood table
Over 4000 stone-carved Buddha statues 😲
This private collection was amassed by Mr. Zhou Hetong over five generations and offers a unique glimpse into Chinese history and culture. It was also a lesson in traditional Chinese architecture, especially the Huizhou-style buildings, with intricate wooden carvings and colorful paintings. 🏛️
