Nanjing Wudingmen Park: Experience the Historical Charm of the City Gate

Location: Intersection of Changle Road and Jiangning Road, Qinhuai District, Nanjing

Introduction: Wudingmen is one of the city gates added to the Nanjing Ming City Wall during the Republic of China era. It is situated between Zhonghua Gate, Yuhua Gate, and Tongji Gate, and is named after the Wuding Bridge located on Changle Road within the city. Originally, the Wudingmen section of the wall was a gap in the Ming City Wall. In 1933, it was transformed into a city gate and named Wudingmen. Along with Hanzhong Gate and Xinmin Gate, which were constructed during the same period, it features a Western-style archway design.

In the 1950s, during the nationwide campaign to dismantle city walls, Wudingmen was demolished, and its bricks were repurposed for building blast furnaces or nearby residences. In 2010, the Nanjing Municipal Government reconnected the Wudingmen section of the city wall and reconstructed the gate. The new Wudingmen features a three-arch design, linking the Ming City Wall on both sides of Changle Road. Visitors can now walk along the wall to reach other gates such as Dongshuiguan, Zhonghua Gate, and Jiqing Gate.
