🏰🌊 Grandeur and Legacy at Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) in Naples ✨

#hellohalloween

Located in the heart of Naples, facing the port and the bustling Piazza Municipio, Castel Nuovo is one of the city’s most striking medieval monuments. Construction began in 1279 under Charles I of Anjou and the fortress-palace quickly became the royal residence of the Kingdom of Naples.

Step inside and you’ll discover a fascinating blend of eras: the original Angevin architecture mingles with the later Aragonese reconstruction (1443-1479) that introduced the famous white-marble triumphal arch and round towers. Within the castle you’ll find the Palatine Chapel (Cappella Palatina), the Hall of the Barons (Sala dei Baroni), and a civic museum showcasing paintings and frescoes from the 14th to the 20th century.

Visiting Castel Nuovo offers both history and atmosphere: you’ll walk beneath medieval arcades, explore ramparts facing the sea and admire one of Naples’ most iconic lookout points. Plan for approx. 1 to 1 ½ hours to experience the main areas, ideally arriving when it opens to avoid crowds.
