Located in the historic heart of Naples at Piazza San Gaetano 68, the Underground Naples tour offers a rare look into the layers of the city beneath the streets. The guided experience takes you about 40 meters below surface, into tunnels, aqueducts and shelters that span some 2,400 years of history — from ancient Greek-Roman engineering to World War II bomb shelters.
The journey includes:
• A glimpse of the Greek-Roman aqueduct, part of Neapolis’s ancient water supply network.
• A Roman theatre area and other subterranean caverns carved from tuff stone.
• WWII era shelters with surviving graffiti and furnishings, offering a tangible connection to more recent history.
Visitor Info:
• Tours run daily and depart at set times (e.g., 10:00 am, 12:00 pm, 2:00 pm, 4:30 pm).
• Duration is approximately 1 to 1.5 hours.
• Due to the nature of the site (steps, narrow passages, low ceilings) it may not be suitable for those with serious mobility issues or claustrophobia.
Whether you’re intrigued by archaeology, urban history, engineering or just love discovering hidden city layers, Underground Naples offers a memorable and vivid experience.
