The afternoon at Himuro Shrine is tranquil and picturesque, with century-old weeping cherry blossoms hanging pink and white flower curtains among the stone lanterns. The cherry blossoms here bloom a week later than those in Nara Park, perfectly timed for late risers to catch the tail end of the sakura viewing. The path behind the shrine is carpeted with fallen cherry blossoms, soft as velvet underfoot, and occasionally curious deer peek out from the woods, adorably covered in petals on their heads.
Heading to Nara Park, the spring sunset casts a golden edge on the clusters of cherry blossoms. Although missing the early morning’s quiet hours, you unexpectedly encounter the liveliest scene—visitors picnicking under the cherry trees while deer weave through the crowd seeking rice crackers. A special recommendation is to stroll toward the Ukigumo-en area, where the open lawn offers a classic view of the five-story pagoda framed by cherry blossoms.
