Nara is one of the must-visit cities when traveling to Japan!
As Japan's ancient capital, Nara is rich in history and culture. It is especially famous for the deer that roam freely in Nara Park. These deer have been considered sacred messengers of the gods at Kasuga Taisha Shrine since ancient times and have been protected ever since. Today, they live peacefully throughout the town.
The abundance of deer is deeply tied to Shinto beliefs, where deer are regarded as divine messengers. As such, both locals and tourists coexist with them respectfully, ensuring their safety.
In addition to the deer, Nara boasts many attractions worth exploring for more than a day, such as Todai-ji, a masterpiece of wooden architecture, the beautiful five-story pagoda of Kofuku-ji, and the historic Kasuga Taisha Shrine.
📍Address: Nara, Japan
📍Note: While the deer are friendly, they are still wild animals and may approach you or demand food. Be cautious when feeding them treats like senbei, which they love.
