In Narusawa Town, Yamanashi Prefecture, there's a spot where you can enjoy refrigerator-like cold even in summer. The Narusawa Ice Cave maintains a temperature of around 0 to 3 degrees Celsius inside the cave, even during the hottest months. Ice pillars can be found inside, and cold winds blow all the way to the entrance.
The cave interior is damp, and as you descend the stairs, you can explore the deeper parts of the cave. Along the way, you'll encounter large ice pillars and blocks, creating a surreal scene that makes it hard to believe it's summer. According to legend, the far end of the cave is said to connect all the way to Enoshima.
It takes about 25 minutes by car from the center of Fujiyoshida. Since the parking lot was crowded, it's recommended to park in the lot near the main road on busy days.
Inside the cave, there are slippery stairs and areas with low ceilings where you need to crouch to pass through. People with weak legs or small children are not allowed to enter. It's advisable to check in advance before visiting.
