Located in Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, is the Otsuka Museum of Art.
This large museum spans approximately 4km from three basement floors to two above ground floors.
The museum is home to over 1,000 reproductions of famous Western paintings, ranging from ancient murals carefully selected by a six-member selection committee to contemporary paintings from over 190 art museums in 26 countries.
Using the special techniques of Otsuka Ohmi Ceramics Co., Ltd., the works have been reproduced at the same size as the originals, allowing you to experience the artistic value of the originals in Japan.
Even the size and frame of the original paintings have been reproduced!
You can even touch the paintings and get a feel for how the paint was applied. You can view them from up close and take photos freely.
It's rare to see so many masterpieces at once. If you were to see the Mona Lisa at the original Louvre, you'd have to stand in a crowded spot, but at the Otsuka Museum of Art, you can see it in a much more secluded environment.
They even had a reproduction of Van Gogh's Sunflowers, which was burned during the war! It's amazing to be able to see works that will never be seen again.
They're all replicas, but they look so real!!
I always thought the real paintings would be better, but I'm so glad I went!!
⬇️TIPS
✔️Buy advance tickets for a great deal and smooth entry!
Advance tickets with no expiration date are 110 yen cheaper than same-day tickets and allow you to skip the lines.
✔️Take a tour with a volunteer guide!
You can tour the museum while listening to the guide's commentary. I learned a lot about paintings I didn't know! It's open at regular times, so don't miss it.
