Nothing beats an autumn road trip through Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture. As the leaves begin to turn, the whole region glows with warm shades of red, orange, and gold—making even the drive itself a visual treat.
We explored a few iconic stops along the way:
– Nasu Animal Kingdom: a must-visit for animal lovers, with up-close encounters and scenic views of the mountains.
– Tsutsuji Suspension Bridge: a stunning spot to take in the fall colors from above.
– Nasu Onsen Shrine: peaceful and spiritual, nestled quietly in the woods with vibrant foliage surrounding the torii gates.
– Sessho-seki (Killing Stone): a mysterious volcanic site with sulfurous steam and ancient legends—beautiful and eerie at once.
Even just driving between these sites, the scenery was breathtaking. Rolling hills covered in colorful forests and distant views of Mt. Nasu made it a perfect autumn getaway. If you love nature and quiet mountain vibes, Nasu in the fall is a hidden gem worth discovering.
