The sight of red lanterns lighting up one by one at the tea houses lining the narrow alleys is almost magical. Even though I'd seen it hundreds of times on social media, the sight that unfolded before my eyes was far more beautiful than I'd ever imagined.

The lanterns are especially beautiful in front of Amei Tea House, Jiufen's signature tea house. Many people stop to take photos of the magical sight. The warm light of the lanterns illuminating the cobblestones and reflecting in the puddles after a rain creates an otherworldly beauty.
