📍Ikuchijima, Kosanji Temple & Miraishin no Oka | A different world where Japanese culture and art intersect

On the way to the Shimanami Kaido, we stopped by Ikuchijima.

Here, we found a space filled with an entire worldview that didn't seem like just a temple.

⛩ The gorgeous and gorgeous Kosanji Temple

Built by a Showa era businessman for his mother, the temple is reminiscent of Kyoto and Nikko.

🕳 In the underground Senbutsu-do Hell Gorge

We entered a world of moss-covered stone Buddhas and the "Eight Great Hells." There was no light or sound, and to be honest, it was a little scary.

🪨 Then, returning to the surface, we entered the pure white marble world of Miraishin no Oka.

Italian marble and contemporary art. On a hill overlooking the Shimanami Sea, the mysterious silence makes you feel like you're in a foreign country.

Is there anywhere else where the atmosphere changes so much in a single temple...?
