Time with the cats in Houtong Cat Village 🐾

A short train ride to Houtong Cat Village in Taiwan, a small town. Originally a mining town, it's now a special tourist destination, where cats dominate the town and attract visitors.

As soon as I got off the train, I saw cats everywhere, either napping peacefully or waiting to be petted. I took out the cat toys and Churu treats I'd brought with me.

At first, the cats approached cautiously, but as soon as I shook the toys, their eyes lit up and they came running. Their tails wagging and jumping around were so adorable, I lost track of time playing with them. As soon as I took out the Churu treats, one of them even climbed onto my lap and put his face in my mouth. The sight of them gently licking them made me smile.

The locals happily watched tourists interact with the cats, and other cats leisurely enjoyed the sunshine on chairs in front of cafes and on alley walls. The sight of these cats and cats together felt like a scene from a fairytale.

Houtong Cat Village wasn't just a place with lots of cats; it was a healing space where travelers could relax and unwind through the cats. The day I made friends with the cats through toys and chewy treats became one of the warmest memories of my Taiwan trip.

• Taipei Main Station → Ruifang Station (瑞芳) → Get off at Houtong Station (侯硐)
