Recently, I went on a trip to Taipei with friends and joined a stream trekking tour in Wulai. This was my first experience with stream trekking. Although I often hike in Hong Kong, I initially thought this beginner-level stream trekking tour would be quite easy. To my surprise, it turned out to be more challenging than expected! 🤣
Before setting off, we had to book the tour online in advance. Three days before the activity, the local guide sent us important details, such as the meeting point, time, and items to bring. The tour included a light lunch and stream trekking gear (wetsuit, stream trekking shoes, and helmet). We needed to bring our own swimwear and a set of clean clothes to change into after the water activities. 😉
On the day of the tour, we gathered at 9 AM at the Jiajiuliao Scenic Bridge. After quickly changing into our stream trekking gear, we followed the guide along the Honghe Valley Trail to Jiajiuliao Creek, where our adventure began. Before starting, the guide explained safety rules and teamwork methods for navigating the creek. They also emphasized the importance of environmental awareness, reminding us to take our trash with us. 😎
The weather that day was fantastic, but hiking in a wetsuit was no easy task. Just as we were sweating profusely 🥵, we finally reached the creek. Stepping into the cool water, the refreshing sensation seeped through the wetsuit, instantly cooling us down. 😍 While walking through the creek, we had to be cautious of slippery rocks to avoid injuries. Some sections required climbing, which demanded a certain level of physical strength. The highlights of the trip were undoubtedly the challenges of crossing the dam, navigating rapids, sliding down natural water slides, and jumping into the water! 😻
For lunch, the guide cooked instant noodles using the creek water, showcasing how clean and unpolluted the water was. After lunch, we played in the water for a while before heading back.
This beginner-level stream trekking tour was truly a great way to beat the summer heat. The guide also took photos for us along the way. After a full day of stream trekking, we felt completely exhausted 🤣, but it was definitely an unforgettable experience. A friendly reminder: since most of the tour takes place in the creek, make sure to store your belongings in a reliable waterproof bag. Otherwise, your important items might get ruined. 🙈
