Nha Trang Cathedral, perched on a small hill in the heart of Nha Trang city, is a stunning Gothic-style church. Locally known as the 'Stone Church' or 'Mountain Church,' it was constructed between 1928 and 1930, showcasing the Neo-Gothic style of the French colonial era. While the exterior appears to be made of stone, it is primarily built with brick and concrete, with its earthy gray walls evoking the image of an old medieval European church.
Upon entering, visitors are greeted by the serene and tranquil atmosphere created by the vibrant stained glass windows and the high ceilings. The central tower, standing at 38 meters tall, features a bell tower with clocks on all four sides and bells imported from France, offering a sensory delight for both sight and sound. The cathedral is open to the public without an entrance fee, and visitors can even attend morning or weekend Mass services.
The view of Nha Trang city and Cai River from the hill is breathtaking, with the contrast of the red bricks against the blue sky making it a perfect spot for photography. Adding to its historical significance, the tomb of French missionary Louis Vallet is located at the foot of the cathedral. Combining historical weight, architectural beauty, and serene landscapes, this is a must-visit emotional landmark during your trip to Nha Trang.
