🌅 Castle hill (Colline du Château) – best and most iconic viewpoint and waterfall in nice

📍 location
at the eastern end of the promenade des anglais, between the old town (vieux nice) and the port. you can reach it easily on foot from cours saleya or the beach.

🚶♀️ how to get there

* walk up the stairs from the end of quai des états-unis near the beach (about 10–15 minutes uphill)
* or take the free public elevator at the base of the hill (near hotel suisse) if you prefer an easier way up
* there’s also a small tourist train that stops at the top if you’re exploring around town

💦 the waterfall (cascade du château)

* halfway up the hill, you’ll find the beautiful man-made waterfall built in the 19th century
* the cascade is surrounded by lush greenery and stone paths — it’s cool and refreshing on a sunny day
* it’s also one of the best spots for photos, especially with the sea in the background

🌇 the viewpoint

* once you reach the top, you’ll see panoramic views of the baie des anges (bay of angels), vieux nice, and the promenade des anglais
* the view faces west, which makes it absolutely stunning at sunset — golden light over the city, pink skies, and the sea glowing beneath you
* there are benches and open areas where you can relax, take pictures, and watch the sun dip below the horizon

📸 best time to visit

* about 30–45 minutes before sunset, so you can explore the waterfall, then find a spot for the view
* sunset times vary depending on the season — usually around 7:30–8:30 pm in summer, earlier in autumn and winter

* walk back down toward vieux nice and grab dinner or a drink at rossettisserie or le bistrot du port
* or enjoy a night walk along the promenade des anglais while the city lights reflect on the sea

🌿 tip

* wear comfy shoes — it’s an easy climb but there are steps and cobblestones
* bring a bottle of water and your camera
* stay for a few extra minutes after sunset — the afterglow over nice is magical
