Jigokudani / 地獄谷 (Hell Valley)
Noboribetsu City, Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan 🇯🇵
This is the source of Noboribetsu Onsen's famous natural hot springs.
The area is filled with bubbling mud pools, hot springs, and steam rising from the ground, earning it the nickname "Hell Valley" for its resemblance to scenes from Japanese mythology's hell.
• The water in the pools is a milky blue color due to natural sulfur.
• There is a scenic walking trail (approximately 1 kilometer) with spots to view the steam and the boiling pools.
• Some nights are beautifully illuminated in winter.
• The mineral water from here is transported to ryokans and onsen in Noboribetsu.
📍 Location:
Noboribetsu City (Noboribetsu), Hokkaido, Japan
🚗 Travel from Sapporo for approximately 1.5–2 hours.
📅 Best time to visit:
All year round, but autumn (October)
and winter (December–February) are especially beautiful.
— The changing leaves contrast with the mist
or the white snow covering the mountains.
