DAY 39:
Today we leave Himeji City and head to Okayama City, traveling along National Highway 2, riding leisurely through valleys and fields. The journey, including rest breaks, takes about six hours. We plan to stay in Okayama for three nights to get to know the beautiful scenery of this city.
Okayama is known as the "Land of Sunshine" because of its low rainfall and warm climate. The fruits produced here are all top-notch in Japan. Muscat grapes and white peaches are must-eats. It is also said to be the birthplace of the Momotaro legend. Okayama was called "Kibi Province" in ancient times and is rich in white peaches. There is a folk legend that this is adapted from the story of the real person Kibitsuhiko who defeated the evil spirit Onura to protect Kibi Province. Therefore, Okayama is called the hometown of Momotaro. Walking in the city of Okayama, you can see Momotaro patterns everywhere. There are also statues of Momotaro and his friends in the square in front of the station. Even the road in front of the station is called Momotaro Odori ~ (Okayama City is really trying its best to prove that it is the hometown of Momotaro XDD).
Accommodation: The One Five Okayama, Okayama City
Today's cycling distance: 88 kilometers
Cumulative cycling mileage: 2120 km
