Visiting Okayama and only knowing about Kurashiki's beauty would be a waste! Today, we'll explore Kibitsu Shrine, the starting point of what's known as the "Hometown of Momotaro." It's not only a national treasure-level ancient building, but also boasts Japan's only poetic corridor.
Spend a morning capturing stunning, authentically Japanese-style photos in the tranquil atmosphere where antiquity and legend intertwine! 📸
🌟 Three Must-See Highlights of Kibitsu Shrine
Kibitsu Shrine primarily enshrines Ōkibitsuhiko-no-Mikoto, the legendary prototype of Momotaro. Every detail here tells a story of courage and legend.
1. 🥇 National Treasure-Level Building: Hibiki-irimoya-zukuri (Kibitsu-zukuri)
• Architectural Features: The main hall and worship hall of the shrine are directly connected, forming a unique "Hibiki-irimoya-zukuri" (also known as "Kibitsu-zukuri") roof structure. Viewed from above, this structure presents a magnificent "H" shape, both solemn and beautiful.
• Trip's Selected Perspective: Stand in front of the main worship hall and look up to feel the grandeur of this national treasure-level building, capturing its unique ancient beauty!
2. 🛤️ The Infinitely Extending Philosophical Corridor: Kairo (Cloister)
• Amazing Length: Stretching 360 meters (some say 400 meters), it's built entirely according to the hillside terrain, winding and undulating.
• Trip's Selected Perspective: The cloister is the most photogenic spot at Kibitsu Shrine! We recommend starting from one end and zooming in to capture that sense of endless extension. Especially with the sunlight filtering through the wooden structure, every shot is a masterpiece of Japanese-style cinematography!
• Seasonal Floral Scenery: The cloister is lined with a rich variety of flowers. When cherry blossoms bloom in spring, azaleas in early summer, and a sea of hydrangeas (approximately 1500 plants!) in June, it's a breathtaking spectacle that photography enthusiasts shouldn't miss!
🚶 Transportation and Walking Guide
Kibitsu Shrine is conveniently located near Okayama city center, making it ideal for a half-day trip.
• Transportation: Take the JR Kibi Line to Kibitsu Station. After exiting the station, follow the signs for about 10-15 minutes' walk to reach the shrine.
• Suggested Itinerary Time: It is recommended to allow 1.5-2 hours to leisurely explore the corridors, visit the main hall, and purchase amulets.
• Special Reminder: There are two long staircases from the torii gate to the main hall; comfortable walking shoes are recommended!
