[Kanagawa Prefecture] Ofuna Kannonji Temple, one of the most powerful spots in Ofuna, watched over by the White Kannon Bodhisattva

Kanagawa Prefecture is located in "Ofuna", the gateway to Kamakura, and we went to "Ofuna Kannon Temple" 🚶

When you arrive at JR Ofuna Station, the white Kannon statue stands out and naturally draws your attention... 👀
Go through the west exit ticket gate, walk along the approach behind the residential area, and pass through the mountain gate to Ofuna Kannon Temple, where the 25-meter-long white-robed Kannon statue is enshrined.

It is said that the locals affectionately call it "Kannon-sama" because it watches over the city with a warm smile from the high ground 😌

As soon as you reach the stairs in the temple grounds, you will be greeted by the large face of the Kannon, and when you actually stand in front of it, you will be speechless at its power and scale 🫢

Also, if you go around to the back of the Kannon statue, you will find a cave-like entrance where you can view the inside of the statue! Inside, there is a small Kannon statue on the altar, and a thousand Buddha statues that are meant to comfort those who suffered from the atomic bomb and to pray for peace!

The grounds also have an atomic bomb memorial, a peace memorial tower, and a stone lantern lit by the "flame of the atomic bomb" to pray for lasting peace, making it a place that makes you realize the importance of peace 🕊️

*At night, the Kannon is lit up, so you can enjoy a different view of the Kannon than you would during the day!
