To the west of the main hall of Kosanji Temple is the entrance to Senbutsudo Cave.

Entering the cave and descending, you'll find a painting of hell.
From there, the interior is built with lava transported from Mount Fuji and Mount Asama.

There are three cave chambers in the middle.

Over 1,000 stone Buddha statues are enshrined here, and the sheer number is astounding!

There's a waterfall flowing inside the cave...
It's a little eerie to be alone.

When I came up to the surface,
I was overwhelmed by the sight of the imposing Guze Kannon Bodhisattva.
