[Osaka Umeda] Famous temples in Umeda

■ Taiyuji Temple, Ogimachi, Kita-ku, Osaka Umeda

Tairyuji Temple is one of the representative temples in Kita-ku along Ogimachi Street.

I like temples because they make me feel like my heart is purified, and Taiyuji Temple is a nostalgic space with a tranquil atmosphere, even though it is in the city.

The origins of Taiyuji Temple date back to when Kobo Daishi found a sacred tree that gave off a strange fragrance in the forest that was in this area at the time, carved Jizo Bodhisattva and Bishamonten, and built a hermitage there. Emperor Saga, who was very interested in this, visited the area the following year and bestowed his own guardian Buddha. That guardian Buddha is the Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva, and is worshiped as the principal image of the main hall.

As mentioned above, Tairyuji Temple is a Shingon Buddhist temple, as it is associated with Kukai, also known as Kobo Daishi. 🙋‍♂️

Understanding the temple's roots and connecting temples across the country is also a fun part of the experience 🤣
