I am attending a birthday afternoon tea at 7 PM in Osaka. It is Carte Blanche (カルトブランシュ), a French café located underground on Honmachi Midosuji Street, like a hidden spot in the city.
The place doesn’t seem very large. There are about 8 counter seats and 3 to 4 table seats, with a sushi bar atmosphere, aiming to be a high-class bistro. It seems to operate by reservation. Reservations are accepted in 30-minute intervals between 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM.
It was closed every Tuesday, but since my trip includes a stay in Osaka on Wednesday, I was able to choose this day. I was the only one with a 7 PM reservation, so I got to rent the whole place. The dedicated server stayed close to me and took my order personally.
The kind and cheerful first impression made me feel good instantly. The set consists of 8 types of savory items and 3 types of sweets, focusing on a dinner-style afternoon tea. For drinks, you can choose one cup from 3 types of black tea or coffee.
The appetizing savory items called for champagne, so I ordered an additional glass. The server told me that she had worked at the lounge of a hotel I had visited before and that the afternoon tea tray was changed based on her suggestions.
Since it was just the two of us, we could talk about various things, making it an enjoyable moment. She took great photos and engaged in many conversations until the end, making it a meaningful birthday afternoon tea time. The food was also excellent. Thank you.
