The most retro corner of Osaka: Exploring Tsutenkaku and the Shinsekai shopping district

Tsutenkaku shopping district is completely different from the modern vibes of Shinsaibashi and Umeda.
Walking in here feels like stepping into another time and space.

The streets are narrow,
signboards are densely packed,
and there are many huge 3D billboards.
The whole style has a very "Showa era" feel.
This place is not only popular with tourists,
many locals also come here to eat kushikatsu (fried skewers).
The batter is crispy but not greasy.
The sauce is placed in a communal stainless steel container,
and remember, "no double-dipping!"—there’s a strict rule.

When the lights come on at night,
the entire Shinsekai shopping street has a special atmosphere.
It’s a bit like an old Taiwanese night market but more retro and with brighter colors.
If you like old Osaka, nostalgic scenery, or want to take some unique street photos,
this place is definitely worth a visit.
