Otaru Tenguyama is a renowned scenic spot in Otaru City, Hokkaido, famous for its ski resort and stunning night views. With an elevation of approximately 532 meters, the mountain's summit features an observation deck offering panoramic views of Otaru City and Ishikari Bay. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of the Shakotan Peninsula. The area is beautiful year-round, but the winter snow-covered landscape combined with the night view is especially romantic, often listed as one of Hokkaido's top three night views.
The best way to reach the summit is by taking the Tenguyama Cable Car (Otaru Tenguyama Ropeway), which takes about 4 minutes from the base to the top. The cable car cabins are designed with panoramic glass, providing breathtaking views during the ascent. At the summit, you'll find not only the observation deck but also a ski resort (in winter), Tenguyama Shrine, a café, and a small exhibition hall, making it a great destination for families.
If you visit during winter, you can enjoy skiing and snow activities. In summer and autumn, it's perfect for sightseeing, strolling, or taking the cable car to enjoy the night view.
