After taking in the views from Tenguyama, our tour group was brought to Tengutei for lunch—and honestly, it was a pretty pleasant surprise. From the outside, it looked like a modest local restaurant, but the warmth inside made it feel cozy and welcoming, especially after being out in the chilly air on the mountain.
We were served a set meal with a bit of everything—grilled fish, sashimi, tempura, pickles, miso soup, and rice. The food wasn’t overly fancy, but everything tasted fresh and homely, like it was made with care. The grilled fish stood out—perfectly seasoned and flaky—and the sashimi had a nice clean taste, which is always a good sign.
Portions were just right—not too overwhelming, but definitely enough to feel full. Service was friendly and efficient, even with a big group like ours. It felt like the kind of place locals would go to for a solid, no-frills meal.
Overall, Tengutei made for a satisfying lunch stop, especially after a scenic morning on Tenguyama. It’s not a must-visit gourmet destination, but it’s definitely a great spot for a comforting Japanese meal in Otaru.
