Bucharest on a Budget: Why Romania’s Capital Deserves a Spot on Your Bucket List 🇷🇴✈️

Let me say — this city totally exceeded my expectations. If you think Bucharest is just “another Eastern European capital,” think again. It’s a bold mix of Parisian elegance, gritty communism, vibrant street life, and modern flair — all at super affordable prices.

Here’s how I did it (yes, on a budget), what to expect, and what I’ll never forget.

✈️ Flying in with a Low-Cost Airline:
I flew in with a budget airline — it was cheap, but there were a few bumps:

The flight was delayed (of course 😅), and we landed late at Henri Coandă Airport.

Getting into the city took longer than expected. Public buses are cheap but a bit confusing at night.

Pro tip: Use a ride app like Bolt or Uber — it’s fast, reliable, and inexpensive.

📅 Best Time to Visit:

Late spring (April–June) and early fall (September–October) are ideal — perfect weather and fewer crowds.

Summer can be HOT and dusty, but the nightlife is in full swing.

Winter is atmospheric with Christmas markets, but bundle up.

🌆 Why Bucharest Is Worth Visiting:

The Old Town (Lipscani) is full of bars, cafés, bookstores, and some wild architecture — from Art Nouveau to brutalist.

The Palace of the Parliament is the heaviest building in the world (yes, really!) and a must-see for history and architecture lovers.

Hidden gems like Carturești Carusel (a dreamy bookstore) and Stavropoleos Monastery blew me away.

And did I mention coffee culture + cheap eats? I had full meals for under €10.

⚠️ What to Know Before You Go:

English is widely spoken in tourist areas, but not everywhere — download Google Translate offline just in case.

Sidewalks can be rough — don’t wear heels if you're walking a lot.

Some areas feel gritty after dark — stick to the central zones at night if you’re solo.

ATMs are everywhere, but always use official bank ones, not the random “exchange” machines.

❤️ Most Memorable Moment:
Sitting at an outdoor café in the Old Town with live music playing, the sun setting behind crumbling yet beautiful buildings, and realizing — this city has soul. It’s not polished, but it’s alive.
