[Shiga] Introducing the ruins of Sakamoto Castle, a castle second only to Azuchi Castle in luxury!

Sakamoto Castle, located in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, was a water castle built by Akechi Mitsuhide to monitor Mount Hiei and govern the Western Omi region. Its splendid appearance, complete with a main tower and a small tower, led missionary Frois to describe it as "second only to Azuchi Castle."

In fact, construction began four years earlier than Azuchi Castle, and many people were amazed by Sakamoto Castle's imposing presence.

Although the castle is now a park, few remains of its original structure remain. However, a monument has been erected in the nearby Sakamoto Castle Ruins Park.
