🚂 Travel from Hat Yai - Penang
- From Hat Yai station, 7.30 am, buy a ticket for 50 baht
Take the train for 1 hour, arrive at Padang at 8.30 am, Thai time, adjust the time to Malaysia + 1 hour (no air conditioning)
- When you arrive, walk up and buy a ticket to go to Butterworth
(11.4 rm) It takes 2 hours.
You should use the bathroom beforehand because there are no bathrooms on the train. Toilet fee 30 cents, start at 9.30 am.
(Adjusted Malaysian time) Arrive at the pier at 11.30 am. (Similar to the BTS in Bangkok, air-conditioned, comfortable, lots of booths.
- Ferry fare 1.7 rm, travel time 10 minutes.

🚂 Travel from Penang - Hat Yai
- Take the boat from Georgetown to Butterworth.

- We checked out of Kimberley at noon, called Grab for 6 RM, arrived at 12.25, boat left at 13.00, ate KFC and waited at the connecting mall before walking to the building where we bought the tickets. There is a food court, KFC, Starbucks, subway.
- Padang (Malaysian side) bought a ticket for 14.35, traveled for 2 hours, arrived at Padang (11.4 RM) at 16.35. Malaysian time
- bought a ticket back to Hat Yai (50 baht) at 15.30.
But the train will be late, waiting for people to pass through Thai immigration first.
On Friday, the train was 1 hour late, departed at 16.30, arrived in Hat Yai at 17.30.
There are other times as well. This is for people who go early and want to return on the last day safely.
Moi recommends staying for 2 nights so that you won't be too tired.
(Or if you don't want to take multiple buses, there are tour companies that offer vans that pick you up from your house or hotel and drop you off at the hotel. The round trip costs 1,150 baht.
Or you can rent a private car with 5-6 seats for 3,600 baht, 10 seats for 5,500 baht. Most rates are around this price.)
