Today, we'll take a tour of the over 600-year-old Ubosot (ordination hall) of Wat Phothiyan.
Inside, you'll find "Luang Pho Phet Klap Prathanphon," a Chiang Saen-style Buddha statue, recast in antique bronze. Measuring 5 cubits, 1 span, and 5 inches across, the statue sits in the Phet Klap posture, with the left foot over the right, the right hand in meditation, and the left hand placed over the Buddha in the blessing posture. Built in accordance with the ancient belief that the power of the Buddha's virtues will transform evil into good, counteract ill fortune, and improve your luck. This Chiang Saen-style Buddha statue features a prayer space beneath the base, allowing you to pray for good fortune and crawl inside. In front of the statue are two siblings, Luang Pho Ngern Phut and Luang Pho Thong Phut, both of which were discovered only halfway up from the crypt beneath the base of the altar. This remains the same as when it was first excavated in 1968. At that time, the two Phra Phut brothers were discovered, along with hundreds of Ayutthaya-style bronze Buddha images ranging in lap width from 3 to 12 inches, and thousands of other artifacts. It is believed that paying homage to them will improve your fortune and reverse your ill fortune. Behind the statue is the base of an old chedi. The temple has now constructed a steel mesh frame around the base to prevent digging for amulets and damage to the ancient site. This is one of Phitsanulok's most beautiful and worthwhile temples.
