Wat Krutthatharam, Ayutthaya
A temple built by King Ekathat, the last monarch of the Ayutthaya Kingdom, and also has a sacred Maha Udom chapel for worship and prayer. The principal Buddha image made of white sandstone sits in the Mara-Vijaya posture during the Ayutthaya period. After the fall of Ayutthaya for the second time, it became a deserted temple before being restored and renovated to become a place for monks to reside. At one point, the head of the principal Buddha image was stolen by thieves who cut off the head to sell. When the villagers found out about this, they wanted to repair it, so they went out to search for a replacement Buddha head. By chance, they found a head of a Buddha image that could be assembled into the principal Buddha image perfectly. Importantly, the mouth of the Buddha head that was obtained has a shape called the Garuda's mouth, which is similar to the name of the temple, so this principal Buddha image is called Luang Pho Krut.
Inside the temple, there is also a large statue of the powerful Garuda for worship.
