Ayutthaya - old capital of Siam (Thailand)

This time in Thailand 🇹🇭 I got the opportunity to visit the #unesco world heritage site of #ayutthaya - the second capital of Siam.

Apparently Ayutthaya flourished during the 14th to the 18th centuries, and before it was destroyed by the Burmese, it was believed to be the most populated city of that era (around one million inhabitants I read 😱).

The site is one hour driving from #bangkok and it’s definitely worth the visit. It reminded me of a smaller #angkorwat in Cambodia. Some of the buildings looked somehow similar. Much smaller size but still really impressive.

The main highlights for me were:

Sites 📸🛕🛖⛩️

- the Buddha head “swallowed” by the tree roots at #watmahathat

- the magnificent #watchaiwatthanaram (most of my photos)

Food 🍱 🥘 🍲 🍭

- the local and typical #rotisaimai , which is pretty much a cotton candy wrapped in sweet roti.

- the local freshwater river prawns 🦐

As always #thailand did not disappoint.
