Ayutthaya Historical Park

Ayutthaya Historical Park is located within the island of Ayutthaya, which was the former capital of Thailand for over 417 years. During this long period, Ayutthaya developed in various fields, whether it be government, law, courts, social systems, religion, traditions, culture, architecture, sculpture, painting, fine arts, language, literature, performing arts, and all branches of art and science that the Thai people in the Ayutthaya Kingdom accumulated. There is evidence of valuable historical sites and antiques that have been passed down to the present day.

In 1982, the Fine Arts Department carried out the conservation of the ancient sites of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya under the name of the "Ayutthaya Historical Park Project". Later in 1991, Ayutthaya Historical Park was honored as a World Cultural Heritage Site, along with Sukhothai Historical Park, Si Satchanalai Historical Park, and Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Within the park are more than 425 historical sites that have been surveyed, both inside and outside the city walls. Important historical sites include the ancient palace or the Royal Palace. Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Ratchaburana, Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit In addition, in the Ayutthaya Historical Park, there are other important ancient sites such as Wat Mahathat, Wat Phra Ram, Wat Chaiwatthanaram, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon, Wat Phanan Choeng, Wat Thammarat, etc.
