Wat Lokayasutharam, Ayutthaya

Another ancient temple in Ayutthaya that we highly recommend, Wat Lokayasutharam, is believed to have been built in the mid-Ayutthaya period during the reign of King Nakarindharathirat, the father of Chao Sam Phraya, around 1452 CE. This temple houses the largest reclining Buddha image in the island of Ayutthaya. Located outdoors, this brick and mortar Buddha image measures 42 meters long and 8 meters high. Its face faces north, supporting a lotus flower on its head. Its feet are stacked at right angles, with the toes of equal length. Lotus flowers support the head in place of pillows. It is assumed that this Buddha image was originally bare-chested, but during a renovation in 1996 CE, the head was changed to look like one wearing full attire. Surrounding the Buddha image are 24 octagonal brick pillars. A vihara may have originally been built to enshrine the reclining Buddha, but there is no evidence of its collapse. For those interested in spiritual practices, this is another popular temple for those seeking a cure for bad karma. The temple has parking and is located next to the temple, where you can offer flowers, incense, and candles. #Get a discount without relying on luck #Ayutthaya #ayutthaya #Ayutthaya temples
