.. Peranakan is a word derived from the Malay language, meaning “born here”, used to refer to Chinese people of mixed descent. When foreign men marry local women, their descendants are the ancestors of the Peranakan people, such as the Yawi Peranakan community, which are descendants of Indians, and the Baba community, which are descendants of Hokkien Chinese people, etc.
