We rented a car from the SEZ Airport to visit the Victoria Botanical Garden, drive the twisting Sans Souci Road to this 1,500’ viewpoint, then return along the beautiful north coast Grand Anse, Anse Boileau & Anse Takamaka Beaches, a 70km day circuit.
After parking in the lot across the street, we crossed to pay 100 Qar each to enter the Mission Ruins of Venn's Town, declared a Tentative UNESCO site in 2013. This 50 acre site was set up in 1876 by the Church Missionary society as an industrious school for children of liberated slaves and used until 1889 for vanilla and cocoa cultivation.
We walked 100m up a paved lane to its memorial statue and missionary ruins, then 100m farther on a wooded trail to the Queen Elizabeth Lodge. This covered viewpoint has a panoramic view of the north coast and the granite cliffs of the green Morne Seychellois mountains with distinctive stands of mimosa trees filling the valleys.
