While exploring Porto, I stumbled upon the Chapel of Souls (Capela das Almas) in the heart of the city—and I’m so glad I did. I didn’t go inside, because honestly, the outside alone stole the show. Its entire façade is covered in gorgeous blue-and-white azulejos (tiles) that depict scenes from the lives of saints, and it’s truly one of the most photogenic spots in Porto.

I visited in the afternoon when the sun lit up the tiles just right, bringing out the rich blues and the details in the artwork. People were constantly stopping for photos, and I totally get why—it’s a perfect blend of religious tradition and artistic beauty, all on a street corner.

It’s a quick but unforgettable stop, and definitely worth it if you’re wandering around the city or heading to Bolhão Market nearby.

Travel Tips & How to Get There:
• Best time to visit:
• Afternoon for the best natural lighting on the tile façade.
• How to get there:
• Located on Rua de Santa Catarina, one of Porto’s main shopping streets.
• Easily reached by Metro—Bolhão Station is just a 2-minute walk away.
• Tips:
• No need to go inside unless you’re curious—most people stop to admire the tiles outside.
• Early afternoon is great for photos, but come early in the morning if you want fewer people in your shot.
• Pair it with a visit to Mercado do Bolhão or grab a coffee nearby and people-watch!
