Introducing Gengletang

Built by the Ming Dynasty scholar Zhu Xiang, Gengle Hall is a typical Ming and Qing dynasty residence. In 1981, it was listed as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Tongli in the provincial Taihu Lake Scenic Area. In July 1986, it was designated a Wujiang municipal-level cultural relic protection unit.

Gengle Hall, with its front and back courtyards, boasts three courtyards and 41 rooms, housing a garden, a hall, a pavilion, and a terrace. The garden features a lotus pond, the Mandarin Duck Hall, the Huanxiu Pavilion, and the Osmanthus Hall. The courtyard is exquisitely designed, embodying the essence of Jiangnan's waterside villages, and its close proximity to nature fully reflects the unique character of a Jiangnan waterside village. The residence also houses a root carving gallery, showcasing numerous small and medium-sized exquisite root carvings. The gallery is divided into three halls: a natural-style hall, a hall featuring various Buddha statues, and a hall dedicated to animals. In the center of the downstairs root carving hall is a large root carving of "Nanhai Qishan." At its center sits a laughing Amitabha, 2.7 meters tall and 3.4 meters wide, beaming with Buddha's light and holding a gold ingot in his left hand, a beaming figure.
