High in the Chilean Andes, at over 4,500 meters (14,700 feet) above sea level, Lauca National Park is a breathtaking blend of snow-capped volcanoes, mirror-like lakes, and ancient culture. Located in the Arica y Parinacota Region, this protected area offers a dramatic, remote escape into one of South America’s most pristine landscapes.
At the heart of the park lies Lake Chungará, one of the highest lakes in the world, flanked by the majestic Parinacota and Pomerape volcanoes. Their perfect, snow-dusted cones reflect off the lake’s still waters, creating postcard-perfect views. The region is home to a rich variety of Andean wildlife—including vicuñas, vizcachas, flamingos, and condors—that thrive in the wild, high-altitude environment.
Beyond the nature, Lauca is also steeped in Aymara heritage. Traditional villages like Parinacota, with its centuries-old church, offer a glimpse into the cultural history of the Andes.
