The Great Roc Spreads Its Wings

The Great Roc Spreads Its Wings is the core attraction of the Wujiang Source Hundred Mile Gallery scenic area. The Wujiang River rushes through the high gorges and steep mountains of Bijie, presenting a magnificent view of two sources converging under the cliff landscape of the Great Roc Spreads Its Wings. It is the most beautiful cliff gallery along the thousand-mile Wujiang River. The Wujiang River has two sources: the northern source is the Liuchong River, and the southern source is the Sancha River. These two sources flow downstream through deep gorges and converge at Huawuji, the junction of Qianxi, Zhijin, and Qingzhen counties. With the dam of the Dongfeng Hydropower Station on the Duck Pond River section of the Wujiang River blocking the valley, the clear river stream expands into the emerald Dongfeng Lake. The Great Roc Spreads Its Wings is located within Zhijin County, featuring cliff paintings stretching thousands of meters, with undulating and overlapping layers. Green clusters are interspersed, either embedded up and down or draped horizontally, resembling a group of heavenly soldiers, all looking up to the roc's head. Upon closer inspection, the roc's head has a nose and eyes, vividly lifelike. The wings on either side of the roc's head extend for thousands of meters, forming the core painting of the scenic area. The Great Roc Spreads Its Wings describes a majestic posture or action, originating from Zhuangzi's 'Free and Easy Wandering': 'In the northern sea, there is a fish, its name is Kun. The Kun is so large, it is unknown how many thousands of miles it spans. It transforms into a bird, its name is Peng. The Peng's back is so vast, it is unknown how many thousands of miles it spans. When it flies in anger, its wings are like clouds hanging from the sky. This bird, when the sea moves, will migrate to the southern sea. The southern sea is the Celestial Pool.'
