Weifang, more than just kites! This comprehensive guide will take you on a fun trip to the "Kite Capital"

Weifang is a place where the fun goes beyond just kites. It’s like a treasure box—you have to open it slowly to discover the wonderful surprises inside. I’ve put together a guide based on my own experience to ensure you have an authentic and joyful time.

Day 1: Immerse Yourself in the Charm of the "Kite Capital" and Be a Cultural Enthusiast

Morning: Head straight to the World Kite Capital Memorial Square
When you come to Weifang, your first stop has to be kite-related. This square is the heart of Weifang, with very distinctive architecture. Take a stroll here and soak in the atmosphere of the "Kite Capital." Right next to it is the Weifang Kite Museum, which you absolutely must visit (usually free, but check on-site). It houses kites from all over the world that will dazzle your eyes. You’ll be amazed at how exquisitely a kite can be made—flying in the sky, they’re practically works of art! This is the fastest way to understand Weifang’s culture.

Noon: Dive into the Old Streets for Authentic Flavors
Hungry? Don’t head to big malls; go where the local life is vibrant. I strongly recommend the area near Shihu Garden Cultural Street. Shihu Garden itself is a small, exquisite garden known as the "Pearl of Eastern Shandong," definitely worth a visit. After wandering around, find some food in the nearby old street alleys.

Wherever you see more locals, that’s where you should go. Try a bowl of hot Weifang Rouhuoshao (meat-filled baked bun) with a crispy crust and packed with juicy meat inside, paired with a bowl of tofu pudding—pure satisfaction! Or try the "Ji Ya He Le," a specialty noodle dish with thick, chewy noodles and a particularly delicious broth.

Afternoon: Explore the "Weixian Old Street Area"
After lunch, don’t rush off. Spend more time wandering around the old street area near Shihu Garden. These old houses with blue bricks and gray tiles quietly tell the stories of old Weixian. You can walk aimlessly, take photos, and enjoy the slow pace of life. There’s no hustle and bustle of a big city here, just the warmth of everyday life.

Day 2: Experience the Collision of Nature and History

Morning: Head to Qingzhou Ancient City
If you have enough time, I highly recommend spending a day in Qingzhou (a county-level city under Weifang’s administration). Transportation from the city center is very convenient. Qingzhou Ancient City is an extraordinary place that served as the center of Shandong for a long time in history.

Walking on the ancient cobblestone streets, surrounded by historic buildings, feels like traveling back in time. Ou Garden is a must-visit—it’s the rear garden of the Prince Heng’s Mansion, with pavilions, towers, small bridges, and flowing water, very elegant. The ancient city also has many free attractions and exhibitions for you to explore at your leisure. Don’t forget to buy some Longsheng pastries to try—they’re a famous old brand in Qingzhou, with treats like honey-cut cake and peach crisp that are especially delicious.

Afternoon: Gaze at the "Eastern Venus"
After leaving the ancient city, be sure to visit the Qingzhou Museum (remember to book in advance). Don’t underestimate this county-level museum—it’s actually a national-level museum with many treasures! The most stunning exhibit is the Buddhist statues unearthed from the Longxing Temple ruins. The smile on these statues is peaceful and compassionate, often called the "Eastern Venus." Seeing them in person is an indescribable experience.

Day 3: Embrace the Sea and Joy

Morning: Head to Huanle Sea Beach
Weifang isn’t just about culture and history; it also has the sea! Go to Huanle Sea Beach in the Binhai New Area. The sand here is fine, and the water is relatively clean. Take off your shoes, walk on the sand, feel the sea breeze, and look out at the endless ocean—your worries will melt away. If it’s summer, you can even splash around in the water.

Afternoon: Make a New Year Painting by Hand at Yangjiabu
After the beach, or directly from the city, visit the Yangjiabu Folk Art Grand View Garden. This is a paradise of folk culture! You can see how woodblock New Year paintings are carved one cut at a time and printed sheet by sheet. The craftsmen’s skills are truly amazing! Even more fun, you can try printing your own New Year painting to take home—a meaningful souvenir! The kite workshop is just as fascinating, where you can see the entire kite-making process.

Some Tips:

· Where to stay? I recommend staying in downtown Weifang, such as Kuiwen District, for convenient transportation, dining, and shopping.
· How to get around? Weifang’s city center is not large, and attractions are concentrated, so taxis or buses are very convenient. For Qingzhou, high-speed trains or long-distance buses are both very accessible.
· What to bring back? For gifts to friends and family, Weifang kites and Yangjiabu woodblock New Year paintings are top picks—unique but tasteful. Of course, Qingzhou’s Longsheng pastries are also a great choice.

Weifang is not a city you can fully appreciate with just a quick visit. You need to slow down, visit museums, stroll through old streets, and try hands-on experiences to truly feel its rich cultural heritage and vibrant local life. I hope this guide helps you have an amazing time in Weifang!
