Boao Zen Temple was built according to orthodox Zen Buddhist monastic regulations. Upon entering, you'll find the Tonghui Gate, the Heavenly King Hall, the Puji Hall, the Great Treasure Hall, and the Ten Thousand Buddha Pagoda. The Puji Hall houses twelve distinctive statues of Guanyin, each representing the twelve zodiac animals. Flanking the temple are the bell and drum tower, side halls, the abbot's building, the upper guest hall, and monks' quarters.
The Ten Thousand Buddha Pagoda within the temple offers excellent photos, both near and far, though unfortunately, climbing the tower was not allowed during my visit. Behind the Pagoda is the Four-Faced Guanyin statue. Standing at its feet was deeply moving.
Admission: Free
Transportation: Taxi or shared tram. Less than 5 kilometers from Boao.
Note: You can bring your own incense, but not high-quality incense. Incense purchased within the temple costs $39. Blessing incense sticks are also available for $10 and peace and blessing incense sticks for $20.
